Heritage Assessments and Planning

We regularly create heritage statements and desk based archaeological assessments for clients in advance of development. Most recently for a series of Solar Farms in Derbyshire and Staffordshire.

We have experience of appearing as an expert witness at Planning Inquiries including appearing on behalf of Rule Six Parties. We understand the time, expertise and budgetry challenges that community groups face in presenting their case, and can work with them to ensure they present the best possible case while working to their time and budget constraints

  • Expert witness for Slad Valley Action Group, Rule Six Party - Appeal against refusal of planning permission Summer Street Stroud May 2014 - We provided expert testimony and evidence on the impact of the proposed development on the setting of a group of dispsersed listed farmhouses, a grade II listed georgian residence, a Grade I listed church and two Conservation Areas.

We have experience of inputting into the strategic evidence base for Local Development Frameworks and other strategies; forward planning documents and development management applications.

  • Assessing the historic dimension of proposed allocation sites on the edge of two Dorset towns (2010) - The descriptions of the historic landscape character described the components of the historic landscape present, timedepth in the landscape, place name evidence, local distinctiveness, rarity and significance and archaeological importance and were fed into the wider assessments.
